MASTERING
Mastering is the final
step in the recording process that makes it “sound like a record”. It needs an
exacting ear to make everything sound the
same, - but better.
Great mastering has
nothing to do with the Loudness Wars – though ours are always competitive in
that respect. There’s a lot more to it than that.
At Happybeat, we’ll:-
·
improve clarity, detail, dynamics and volume
·
rectify acoustic problems and pull unruly mixes into line
·
add warmth and colour, and restore the midrange
missing from digital recordings (you’ve noticed that, haven’t you?)
·
use manual
peak editing as well as our collection of vintage and modern EQs, compressors, reverbs and expanders – including our fabulous
late ‘60s DBX units and tape machines.
·
go for “vibey” sounds when
appropriate. We can even emulate the sonics of
traditional vinyl record cutting.
·
provide a free sample test master on request – and suggest
adjustments to your mixes when appropriate
Work on all mastering
projects is spread over a minimum of two sessions, and checked for accuracy in
different listening environments.
We challenge the
customer to find a more devoted mastering service anywhere.
A final note: please
don’t use EQ or compression over your stereo mixes – it really puts a spanner
in the works!
